Secure mobile e-mail connectivity
Organisations are expected to provide mobile e-mail access for their employees. Organisations also have obligations to secure information not only for their own corporate data, but that of their clients and business partners.
According to Gartner, nearly 80% of smartphones have the capability to connect to Microsoft Exchange using ActiveSync. Utilisation of employees’ existing phones provides an alternative to organisation provided smartphones.
Smartphones are inherently more insecure than LAN connected corporate workstations. They often have weaker passwords, they are not policy controlled, and by design are portable. They are often left in public places.
Without mitigation, connecting users’ smartphones to corporate e-mail increases the risk of data loss via these devices.
Data loss from smartphones is likely to be accidental. E-mail senders are unaware that once the e-mail is delivered to the recipient’s mailbox, it will be transmitted to a smartphone.

Features and Benefits
Smartphone independent
The enterprise is not restricted to a specific smartphone for its mobile e-mail solution.
Diverse smartphone platforms can operate simultaneously, with policies specialised to the needs of staff and platform security.
No additional smartphone software
No changes are required on the device.
janusGATE Mobile allows for the operation of the native e-mail client on iPhone, Windows Mobile, Android and Symbian smart phones. An Exchange e-mail client is required for Blackberry.
Minimal impact on useability
Users have no loss of expected functionality using the native e-mail client.
The majority of messages delivered to phones will be unaffected.
No changes to smartphone configuration
All janusGATE configuration is managed at the Exchange Client Access Server that provides Exchange ActiveSync connectivity.
The enterprise does not need to change configuration in phones that already have Exchange ActiveSync connectivity, and does not need to change the connection process for new phones.
Transparent to smartphone network connection
janusGATE Mobile does not interfere with the mechanism used to connect the smartphone to Microsoft Exchange Server. The enterprise can use well known and established security methods such as SSL/TLS or IPSec for channel authentication and encryption.
Rich set of conditions and processes
Allows the enterprise to implement a mobile e-mail policy to suit its requirements.
